Hi everyone! Today I'm picking up my series on our trip to Japan in June. I started it by sharing our time in Tokyo and our visit to Tokyo Disneyland, so if you'd like, you can start there.
Today, I'm picking up the story by sharing our day trip to the Mt. Fuji and Hakone area, which is within driving distance of Tokyo. Our friends we were visiting played tour guide and took us around the area by car.
Mt. Fuji is notoriously hard to see from afar, with many days so cloudy you don't see it. Unfortunately, the day we had set aside to do this trip turned out to be rainy and cool, so we didn't have high hopes that we would see it. However I friend assured us it was still worth our time to see this area of Japan. It's much more nature, like Asheville, so it was nice to get a break from the city.
We started the day with a walk up to a classic viewpoint of Mt. Fuji. There were so many stairs!

And sadly, this is what we got.
It was still beautiful though, and totally worth the walk.
We also saw the shrine at the bottom.
Next stop was a beautiful waterfall!
For lunch, we stopped at a charming small village and had the most delicious homemade authentic Udon. The owner was so kind, and we bonded over having twins. She gave us all chopsticks when we left, and this was one of our loveliest memories of the trip.
We also stopped at a cute village that had replicas of old Japanese homes and lots of history for the boys.
It was gorgeous.

Mt. Fuji should have been visible from here too.

Our final stop was Hakone, with its beautiful lake.
And another gorgeous temple.
This was one of the prettiest.
It was so nice in nature.
And these were so interesting.
We were bummed that we never saw Mt. Fuji, but still loved our day exploring the mountains, and it was worth the time. Luckily, the funniest thing happened the next morning!
We woke up to this view from our hotel! The rain cleared, and finally we saw it!
We were thrilled to be able to say that we saw it!
This was another favorite part of our trip! Next up is our time in Kyoto and Nara. Don't forget to start the trip with our time in n Tokyo and our visit to Tokyo Disneyland.
